Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral was consecrated in 1881. It became the Cathedral Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay. This beautiful building contains Romanesque architecture modeled from the Ludwigkirche in Munich, Germany where then Monsignor Krautbauer was pastor before immigrating to the United States. Bishop Krautbauer is interred under a granite slab in the floor at the Bishop Wycislo entrance.

A magnificent 40-foot by 25-foot mural entitled The Crucifixion is painted on the rear wall of the sanctuary. It was painted in 1883 by German immigrant Johann Schmitt. There are also eight paintings in the Cathedral added in the early 1900s representing the eight beatitudes. There are many figures and carvings throughout the building depicting the Catholic faith. The most brilliant piece of art is the Liebmann Memorial Rose Window above the large pipe organ. The window is comprised of over 4,000 pieces of stained glass. The Joseph Francis Memorial Organ has 56 ranks, 4 manuals and 3,282 pipes.

Visit the Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral in downtown Green Bay for a full tour of the Cathedral, stained glass windows and the Green Bay Diocese Museum in the lower level of the church. They offer Wednesday confession and adoration as well as daily masses. Check their website for a full list of schedules and services.

The Art Garage was founded by local artists who wanted to recreate the experience of making art in a studio once they graduated from college. The Art Garage recently expanded from 6,000 to 55,000 square feet. They will use this new space to offer additional programming as well as space for rental to local artists, arts organizations, and community businesses on a short and long-term basis.

Visitors can come into the gallery and see a rotating exhibit of art representing many different genres. Each month, the front gallery features a special travelling exhibit with a specific theme. All artwork is for sale, as well as handcrafted items and jewelry in the gift shop. The Art Garage has live performances several times a month, as well as a regular Open Mic Night and many workshops for kids and adults. Learn a new painting technique, meet up with other writers and musicians, and learn how to use your digital camera to take better shots! Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, you’ll find something of interest on their event calendar.

This is the first and only site in the United States which is approved by the Roman Catholic Church as an apparition site of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As the story goes, Adele Brise was born in Belgium in 1831 and moved with her family to a Belgium settlement near Green Bay in the early 1850s. In 1859, after several documented appearances around the world, Mary visited Adele in the wooded area of her farm with the definitive purpose to ask Adele to pray for poor sinners and teach the young children about the catechism and the sacraments. Adele dedicated the rest her life to doing just that travelling from town to town tirelessly praying and teaching. Lambert Brise, Adele's father, eventually built a chapel on the site of the apparition. Pilgrimages began shortly after where people were often cured of blindness, deafness, illness, and many other ailments.

An important milestone in the history of the Shrine is the Great Peshtigo Fire of 1871. This is one of the worst recorded fires ever in the United States burning 1.5 million acres. Adele and her sisters took shelter in the chapel along with several area residents. Many moved their livestock onto the chapel grounds, as well. Adele and her sisters took the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and marched around the chapel praying. As the fire quickly grew and approached the Shrine perimeter, a heavy rain fell putting out the fire before it could reach the chapel. The people inside were saved, and the only livestock to survive the fire were the ones brought onto the chapel grounds.

Due to all the pilgrim visitors coming to the Shrine, a new and larger chapel was built in 1942. There are now numerous events held throughout the year at the Shrine. In mid-August one of the biggest events is held called the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On October 8, an outdoor candlelit rosary procession is held in honor of the Shrine surviving the Great Peshtigo Fire along with an all-night Adoration. Daily Masses are held inside the beautiful chapel accompanied by daily confessions. The Oratory where Mary appeared to Adele is below the chapel. Thanks to a recent renovation, the Shrine is completely handicap accessible. Visit this Shrine just east of Green Bay for prayer, confession or just to learn some Wisconsin history. The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is great for large groups and motorcoach tours with adequate bus-parking space.

Beerntsen's Candies
200 N. Broadway, Green Bay   920-437-4400   Website | Map
The Beerntsen 's Candies tradition began on December 1, 1925 when Henry Beerntsen opened his candy store in what is now Green Bay's Historic Downtown and directly across the street from the current store at 200 N. Broadway in Green Bay. Henry began the tradition of making delicious chocolates and served ice cream and sandwiches. The store became a favorite stop among Green Bay residents and thrived in the original space for many years.

Henry's son, Mel, joined his father in the business in 1958 and then his son Mark joined him in 1995. Mark and his dad then began looking for new space to expand the size of the store and built a brand new building right across the street at 200 N Broadway in Green Bay.

Today Mark and his children Blake, Ben and Brianna, are third generation candy store owners with the fourth generation in training and ready to continue the tradition for years to come. When you enter the store the sweet smell of chewy caramels, delicious turtles, truffles, freshly dipped caramel apples or just plain melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, fresh-roasted nuts, luscious creams, old-fashioned fudge, crunchy brittle and buttery caramel corn lure you in and won't let you go until you leave with the chocolate people dream of.

Beerntsen's Candies has been shipped to every state in the US, Canada, every country in Europe and to South America. Today the Beerntsen's want to make it easy for you to shop, send and receive. So browse this site and order online whenever you wish. Your chocolates will be delivered in the traditional Beerntsen blue signature gift box.

The Oilerie, as seen on ABC's Shark Tank, has a shop located in Northwest Green Bay where only the finest ingredients produced in their production facility just south of Rome, Italy make it to the store shelves! The concept for an olive oil shop was born when Curt and Amy Jo Campbell took a trip to Europe in 2003. They were amazed with the hand-crafted bottled olive oil found in boutiques throughout Poland. The Campbell's were bottling their own hand crafted olive oil six months later out of a small cottage in Wisconsin. The Oilerie is now the largest single store retailer of extra virgin olive oil in the United States.

At The Oilerie, customers are encouraged to sample oils and aged balsamic before purchasing, in order to buy according to personal taste. The knowledgeable staff happily answers questions ans assists customers looking for the perfect pairing of oils for their next dinner party. An assortment of natural, fresh products are available including flavored olive oils, nut oils, aged balsamic, natural body lotion, soap, spice rubs, pasta, olives and marinades.

Season to Taste
2300 Lineville Rd., Green Bay   920-634-2803   Map
After being a stay-at-home mom for a few years and trying to decide what to be when she grew up, Katherine Forrest stumbled across a Culinary School program. There wasn't a class that she wasn't dying to take. She signed up for the accelerated program and got a part-time job working at a kitchen retail store.

She was thrilled to be talking about cooking all day and then going to school at night to learn more about cooking. Now she opened my own store, Season to Taste, and can't wait to share her cooking wisdom and learn from those who stop by. The only thing more fun than cooking, is talking about what you just cooked and what you're going to cook next.

Stop by Season to Taste for high quality kitchen tools and tips that make cooking fun for both the aspiring and accomplished home cook.

Tsyunhehkw^ is an agricultural community and culturally-based program of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. The community features an 83-acre certified organic site, cannery, and retail store. Tsyunhehkw^ was founded on the concept of self-sustainability and food security, as well as service for the Oneida Nation and the community. The entire operation and services are open to the public.

The organic farm produces heirloom white corn, beans and squash. There's a solar greenhouse and herb and berry garden. The farm maintains up to 35 grass-fed cattle alongside 20 acres of crops planted on a rotational basis. Every year, the farm raises and processes free-range poultry and farm fresh eggs. The staff shares their knowledge with the community through workshops on diverse topics, such as Three Sisters Garden, Productive Vegetable Gardening, Herb and Berry Workshops, and Holistic Health issues.

Once the crops are harvested, they are processed in the cannery. Nutritional analysis completed on the white corn has shown a higher value of protein compared with other varieties of conventional corn. The cannery also is used to preserve apple products and process jams/jellies, salsa, pickles, and other garden fresh fruits and vegetables. The Cannery also provides workshops on the process of preserving.

The Oneida Market has more than 1,500 different natural and holistic products, including essential oils, pet care, vitamin and mineral supplements, health and body care, herbs, teas, coffee, and all of the food products processed at the cannery. The market also produces their own first aid salve, Athlete's Foot slave, arnica pain salve, skin care salve, toothpaste, and a variety of other products made with essential oils and other natural ingredients.
